Permitted Development (PD) rules in the UK grant automatic planning permission for certain home improvements, like extensions, loft conversions, and outbuildings, but with strict size, height, location, and material limits to protect neighbours and the environment, especially in designated areas (National Parks, AONBs) where rights are restricted.
- Outbuildings: Single storey, max 2.5m eaves height (or 4m pitched roof/3m other); no more than half the garden covered; specific rules for side/rear, designated land.
