Built properly from the frame out.
Every ShedBox building is made to order, but the quality of the structure starts with the same fundamentals: robust timber framing, carefully selected materials and a specification designed around how the building will be used.
The final specification can vary by project. The details below show the standard construction approach and commonly available options used across ShedBox buildings.
Standard building heights
ShedBox buildings can be produced in a range of standard heights depending on the style of building, its intended use and the proportions required for the project.
1800mm eaves
Approx. 2500mm ridge height.
2080mm eaves
Approx. 3000mm ridge height.
2450mm eaves
Approx. 3350mm ridge height.
Bespoke heights can also be discussed where the project requires something outside the standard options.
Frame & structure
The structural frame is the backbone of every ShedBox building. The standard specification uses treated structural timber and robust roof construction to create a strong, long-lasting shell.
-
Wall framing40 × 90mm treated C16 CLS timber is used as the standard wall-frame specification.
-
Purlins40 × 100mm treated C16 timber purlins are used to support the roof structure.
-
Base structureA treated redwood plinth or ring beam forms the lower structural perimeter of the building.
-
Roof boardingStructural OSB3 roof boarding is used as standard beneath the external roof covering.
-
FixingsHeavy-duty fixings are used throughout the structure to create a secure and robust frame.
A 40 × 120mm carcass can also be specified where the project calls for a deeper wall build-up.
Roofing
The roof build-up is designed to provide a strong, weather-resistant finish while complementing the style and intended use of the building.
Onduline SX35 grey
Onduline SX35 is used as the standard external roof covering across many ShedBox buildings, installed over structural OSB3 roof boarding.
-
Roof boardingStructural OSB3 boarding forms the solid roof deck beneath the external roof covering.
-
Roof supportTreated structural timber purlins support the roof construction and form part of the main building frame.
-
Alternative finishesAlternative roofing materials can be discussed where a project requires a different appearance, performance or specification.
Roofing options can vary depending on the building design. The exact roof specification will be confirmed as part of your quotation and order.
Cladding options
The external cladding has a big influence on the finished character of the building. ShedBox offers several timber cladding options, from the standard redwood finish through to Western Red Cedar.
Half-lap Redwood
The standard ShedBox cladding option, providing a clean timber finish with overlapping boards designed to protect the building envelope.
Castle Board Redwood
A more distinctive profiled redwood cladding option for projects where a different external appearance is preferred.
Tongue & Groove Redwood
Interlocking redwood boards create a neat, continuous external finish with a more refined boarded appearance.
Western Red Cedar
Tongue-and-groove Western Red Cedar can be specified where the project calls for a premium natural timber finish and distinctive colour variation.
Cladding samples can be discussed before the final specification is confirmed, helping you choose the finish that best suits the building and its setting.
Flooring & anchoring
Flooring can be specified to suit how the building will be used, with options available for general storage, workshop use and more demanding environments.
18mm flooring
A robust standard floor build-up suitable for many general-purpose ShedBox buildings.
OSB
Structural OSB flooring can be specified where it suits the intended use and overall building design.
Marine Ply HEXA
A tougher flooring option for projects where a more durable and hard-wearing finish is required.
Anchoring the building
Where the building is installed onto a suitable concrete base, anchoring can be used to secure the structure appropriately to the prepared foundation.
The exact fixing method depends on the building, base and site conditions, and will form part of the final agreed installation specification.
The most suitable floor and fixing method depends on the intended use of the building and the base it will sit on. These details are confirmed as part of the quotation.
Membrane & weather protection
Weather protection is built into the structure rather than treated as an afterthought. The wall build-up is designed to help manage moisture while protecting the timber frame and internal structure.
Breathable membrane
A breathable membrane is used as part of the wall construction to help protect the structure from external moisture while allowing water vapour within the build-up to escape.
-
Moisture protectionThe membrane provides an additional protective layer behind the external cladding, helping to reduce the risk of wind-driven moisture reaching the timber frame.
-
BreathabilityThe wall build-up is designed to allow trapped vapour to disperse rather than remain within the structure.
-
External claddingTimber cladding forms the outer weather-facing layer and should be maintained with a suitable exterior treatment where required.
-
Roof protectionStructural roof boarding and the selected external roof covering work together to protect the building from the elements.
The exact wall and weather-protection build-up can vary depending on the building type and final specification. Your quotation will confirm what is included for your project.
What’s included as standard
Although every ShedBox building is made to order, the standard construction specification is built around the same core materials and structural details.
Treated structural frame
Standard 40 × 90mm treated C16 CLS wall framing.
Treated roof support
Structural treated timber purlins forming part of the roof build-up.
Redwood plinth / ring beam
Treated timber forming the lower perimeter structure of the building.
Structural OSB3 roof deck
Solid structural boarding installed beneath the external roof covering.
Half-lap Redwood cladding
The standard external timber cladding finish used across many ShedBox buildings.
Breathable membrane
An additional protective layer behind the external timber cladding.
Heavy-duty fixings
Robust structural fixings used throughout the building frame.
Onduline SX35 roof covering
Grey Onduline SX35 used as the standard roof covering on applicable designs.
Your final quotation and order confirmation will set out the exact specification for your building, including any upgrades, alternative materials or project-specific options.
Your final specification
Confirmed around your project
The specifications on this page show the standard materials and construction approach used across ShedBox buildings. Because every building is made to order, your final specification may vary depending on the size, layout, intended use and options you choose.
Discuss the building
Tell us what the building needs to do, its approximate size and any particular features you would like to include.
Choose the specification
We’ll confirm the materials, dimensions, cladding, roofing, flooring and relevant options for the project.
Confirm before manufacture
The agreed specification is set out as part of your quotation and order confirmation before manufacture begins.
Bespoke sizes, alternative materials and project-specific details can be discussed as part of your enquiry. The final quotation will clearly set out what is included.
